On Sunday afternoon, June 19, after seeing Jesus, I encountered a group of predominantly young college-age demonstrators/protestors in the center of the street in front of Dublin's main general post office. The group is protesting the handling of their country's economic and financial crisis. Presently, Ireland's economy is among the worst among free-enterprise nations throughout the world.
Throughout the whole of Ireland house prices have dropped nearly 12% in the past year, and are down by 40% from their peak four years ago.
Economist Dermot O'Leary says that the arrival of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations International Monetary Fund (IMF) into Ireland may have had something to do with the drop in housing prices. He blames poor and mismanaged banking for much of the problem.
Look closely in the early frames of the video and you might even see Jesus walking briskly away from the protest. Perhaps it was reminiscent of a time 2,000 years ago when a crowd cried out choosing Barabbas over the Lord. (Please forgive my humor!)
